Race Is NOT a Factor in Capital Punishment - 1086 Words

The death penalty’s main argument is morality. Is it wrong or is it right to sentence someone to death for a crime. The idea of capital punishment stems back from the world’s earliest known societies (Garland, 2011). In the United States today the death penalty is used as form of punishment in 32 states. America is a country of opinion, Americans have their own outlook on everything and the death penalty is no different. Many Americans feel capital punishment is wrong and unethical; while other Americans feel it is ethical and needed. The death penalty can be traced all the way back to the 18th Century B.C. in Babylon to the Hammurabi Codes (â€Å"Introduction to the Death Penalty,† 2014). Does knowing the criminal will be locked in a jail cell for the rest o f his or her life help the victim’s family sleep at night? In most cases it does not. People who view the death penalty as a wrong sort of punishment would most likely change their mind if it was a member of their family who was murdered (Meranze, 2011). What does the death penalty do that life without parole could not do? The death penalty gives the families closure of their lost loved one. The idea of one sitting in a jail cell for the rest one’s life does not give closure to most families. Deterrence is another big reason the death penalty is still used in the United States (â€Å"Death Penalty,† 2014). If potential criminals see criminals put to death, would it stop them from committing a crime? The answer is unclear, but a survey was done of criminologists in 1996 and roughly eleven percent believed that the death penalty was a deterrent to other criminals (â€Å"Death Penalty,† 2014). The same survey was done again in 2008 and the percent was nearly cut in half, six percent of the criminologists believed the death penalty was a deterrent (â€Å"Death Penalty,† 2014). This week, we are interviewing Andrew Kopac, owner of Kopac Design LLC, a custom design and build company based in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The largest aspect that jumped out with Andrew is his current journey through architecture school and his hardships involved within. Lets see what Andrew has to say. Currently, I am the only member but am steadily looking to hire in the coming months. The company started with many custom cabinetry units from single bathroom vanities to full behind bar cabinet setups. Most projects include renovation work with extravagant trim work. Without getting too far off topic, I was ready to drop out of my University each and almost every semester since the start of my education here for Architecture. I was getting bored and what seemed to be far off topic from what I wanted to learn. The reason I enrolled for school had nothing to do with my parents expectations, it has to do with myself and wanting to learn more within the construction field. Graduating from a Technical High Scho ol with a focus in construction, I have held many jobs from a cabinet designer, custom home builder, house flippers and even other contractors. As I experienced more projects, I wanted to have a hand in designing every aspect within a residential home. I started to explore 3-D programs in High school and received my first design and build project, building a solid oak vanity. This project blossomed into the business I run today. Answer: Introduction: 1.1 Purpose: This business report talks about the role of Human Resource in strategic acquisition of the company. The scope of Human Resource is quite vast than how it is being used in most of the companies. Background: The HR Manager of a retail bookseller called Wordsmiths is Gemma. The bookseller is situated in Queensland. Recently the company has merged with another bookseller c alled Mainly Books.. Gemma wished HR to get involved in the strategic decisions of the company as well apart from the administrative and staffing jobs. Gemma had come across many challenges while trying to understand the process of acquisition. She had penned down some of the issues: 1. The process of abolition of staffs who work in the Mainly Book stores as she felt abolition is required 2. No presence of Information Management System of HR in Mainly Bookstore. The necessity to include the information system. 3. Issues associated with HR are dealt differently by both the companies. Need to have a HR Management System that can suffice to the needs of the both the companies. 2.0 HRs Functions in a Merger: During the process of acquisition, HR may come across many issues or challenges. The first and foremost challenge that the HR need to address is cutting down the number of staffs in the Mainly Books. Based on the thorough analysis done by the HR team, it has been revealed that Mainly Books has employed around 225 staffs in their organization, most of the employees being employed on a full time basis. Further it was found that there is an issue of presence of more staffs than what is required in the organization. This issue also disturbs the balance between full timers and part timers. Over few years, the financial condition of the bookstore is unsteady and poor. Recruitment of excess people can be a reason for the same. Gemma studies the overall employment status of Mainly Books and comes to a conclusion that there is a strong need of cutting down the number of employees in the store. The number of employees can either be cut down or full timers can be asked to become part timers. Sh e found that around 80 full time positions are of no such use and can easily be cut down. 2.1 Downsizing of Employees: In order to curtail the cost, the companies often cut down on the number of employees. The decision to cut down on the number of staffs is one of the most important decisions mostly taken by the companies in order to control the cost. The CEO of the Wordsmiths, Mr. Alan thinks Gemma should take care of some of the issues while cutting down on the number of employees. He thinks first and foremost Gemma should decide the right number of staffs who needs to be downsized. In addition, how many staffs could be changed to a part timer from a full time position. According to him people who have attained their retirement age should most likely be abolished instead of youngsters who are more energetic and feels more motivated to work. Additionally Gemma should also take care of the legal issues she may face while forming a process of abolition. 2.2. Process of Abolition: While abolishing manpower, the following issues should be taken care of : 1. First and foremost, it is always wise to lay down a formal abolition procedure in order to avoid claims in the future. A list of employees should be made from which employees should be picked up for abolition. 2. The selection process should be objective and same for all the employees whose names are mentioned in the list. 3. Making employees aware about the abolition process that might commence at a future date. 4. Alternative ways of employment should be suggested to the employees who are considered to be abolished. 5. Proper time should be given to the employees who are considered to be abolished so that they can find proper employment for themselves. 6. Employee abolishment should be proper and justified. 7. Proper notice period with proper payment of wages should be done. 2.3. Age of Abolition: According to the CEO, Gemma should try to abolish employees who will be retiring soon instead of employees who are young, energetic and have lot to learn. It will be less painful for the employees who have attained their retirement age than youngsters. Gemma should take into account in determining the age of abolition: Most of the employees who have attained their retirement age would like to go for an early retirement but there are many pros and cons for the same. 1. If the employee works until his retirement age, he would be entitled to get the whole of his pension while if he is abolished before his normal retirement age, he would receive a lesser amount. 2. An old employee is an asset for the company. If an old employee is released, the company might be at a loss in the long run. 3. The employee should be provided with proper redundancy pay and he should not be deprived of any of the benefits. Introduction of HRIMS: HRIMS stands for Human Resource Information Management System. Data or information or information can be maintained with the help of this system. This is an electronically managed system. Huge data can be managed with the help of this system. A database (data management) can be obtained with the help of this system. An integral part of DSS (Decision support system) is HRIMS. An effective way of maintaining all information and data can be obtained with the help of this system. HRIMS its significance: Mr. Alan wanted Gemma to include all information which is related to work in the system of Human Resource Management System. There was a system existing already in the organization. This system was maintained by the HR professionals of Wordsmiths for their employees. Alan wanted Gemma to include Mainly Books data related to staff and workforce in the same system. Additionally, she was asked to do configuration of the system so that the system can give sufficient data so that a proper manpower planning system can be developed. This would entirely be a new concept that would help to oversee the trends of manpower and take care of issues before they turn into big problems. Configuration of HRIMS and its maintenance: HRIMS is an information management system. This system is utilized by a) storage of all information related to workforce b) proper management of the information which is stored in the organization. Gemma should configure such a HRIMS system which can provide information about the entire workforce and the entire company with the access of a simple application. The system should be made very simple and user friendly but organized so that information about employees can be obtained at one go. All the records about the workforce and management should be kept in such a way so that it should be accessible to all the HR professionals. This system should help the HR manager to find and look at the profile of the employees from the database which is stored in this system. In this system, there should be also options to add and update in the databases of the employees. Also there should be an option to delete the data of the employee if the employee has left the company. With the help of the l eave management system, the leaves of the employees can be maintained efficiently. Other facilities are leave requests from the employees can be managed. The leaves that the employees take can be properly taken care of. The staffs on the other hand can view the leaves taken till date and how many leaves do they have in store. They can access this through this system from anywhere and anytime. The system should generate different kinds of reports related to workforce like employee information, payroll management, attendance report, leave management report, enrollment reports. HR Planning Process: Alan instructed Gemma to restructure the entire HR planning process. He asked her to select the right process which would be applicable at this stage of the company. He thinks HR can be beneficial for the company and play a more strategic role than looking after the administrative issues of the company. He wanted Gemma to find detailed options for the same. 4.1 Through proper HR planning process, the organization can assess and engage staffs in a better and efficient manner. It also proves to be very effective in providing the best manpower whenever there is a requirement. Right staffing is possible through efficient HR planning process. It is a process Gemma should adopt in the very beginning and also it is a never ending process. Gemma should go for a process which helps in assessing the right selection of staff at the right time and at the right place. In selecting the best process, Gemma should take care of the following points: 1. Proper forecasting in terms of the requirement of manpower in the future. In order to obtain the desired result, the HR should forecast the requirement of the staffs in the organization. With the help of the current scenario of the company and proper analysis, the HR can estimate the requirement of manpower in the future. 2. Another important part of planning is supply. Based on the present staffing and present scenario of the company, the supply forecasting can be done. It gives importance to the availability of manpower in the future in terms of the inside and outside sources. The inside sources are promotion, job transfer while the outside sources are offering jobs to freshers who can perform well if they are recruited in the organization. 3. The next significant part of planning is bringing the demand and supply together. In other words the demand and supply should match. We can say it is to bring the demand of manpower and supply of manpower in such a balanced position so that it attains an equilibrium position. It means if there is any shortage or any excess of staffing, both can be managed. 4. The next plan in the execution plan. After considering the demand and supply of manpower , the next plan is execution plan. In order to carry out the planning process effectively and efficiently, there are some actions which need to be followed. The levels of services will be reduced. When the work is outsourced, the outsourced vendor might not be able to give the service on time. The company may face issues from the vendors 5.3 Recommendation: Gemma should recommend on the outsourcing function. According to her, the HR department is already overload with heavy work. Taking additional work will reduce the efficiency of the HR professionals. Moreover, if the administrative work is outsourced or given to managers of the store to look after, then the HR could perform at a higher level and contribute to the company. HRs role is higher than simply looking after payroll management and day to day administrative work. If the day to day work is looked after by outside vendors, then the HR team can take care of different issues in the organization. 6.0 Conclusion: In conclusion, we can say that the functions of a human resource department is merely not taking care of the day to day administrative issues of the organization. It should be kept in mind that HRs role is much higher than this. HR should take active part in the strategic decision making as well. At the strategic level, HR should be involved actively. First and foremost, if an acquisition takes place in the organization, HR should involve itself in the merge. Also HR should find out whether there is any requirement of downsizing or not. If there is any requirement on downsizing on the number of employees, HR should take the right decision as to which group of employees should be downsized. Abolishing the employees at the right time is an important decision that HR has to take. The organization should also adopt HRIMS through which information can be maintained in an efficient and prudent manner. While outsourcing the administrative work, the advantages and disadvantages of the organi zation should be kept in mind by the HR. Recommendation: It is recommended that: HR should involve itself at a strategic level rather than administrative work Proper abolishment needs to take place in the organization. Proper HR planning process needs to be followed. HRIMS should be adopted to ensure efficiency. Proper outsourcing of the work should take place.

Marilyn Monroe Biography Norma Jean Baker was born on June 1st 1926. She said that she came from an unhappy and deprived childhood. Galdys was Norma's mother. She had two children with Jack Baker (Norma's father) while still very young. Her father died in a car accident soon after she was born and at the age of 26 Galdys remarried to Edward Mortenson. Edward didn't want children but Galdys did so she divorced him. Soon after that Galdys couldn't take care of Norma anymore so she gave her up for adoption. In an interview Norma said that her grandmother tried to mother her with a pillow and how she was forced to do the dishes (at age 5) in an orphanage and that she was abused in one of the families that she was adopted by, and the fact that she was raped by a policeman. On June 19th 1942- two weeks after her 16th birthday Norma Jean married to James E. Dougherty. The marriage lasted for 4 years and by the time the divorce was granted she was well- known as Marilyn Monroe. The name Marilyn Monroe came from the Broadway musical actress, Marilyn and she got Monroe from her grandmother. In July 1942- during the war there was a great demand for pin-up pictures for the soldiers. One of the soldiers took plenty pictures of Marilyn but they were never printed, he said that they were lost in the mail. So Marilyn went to Blue Book Modeling and studio Agency and was put to work immediately. This is when it all went big for her. By this time she was about 19 years old. Her first film with this agreement was Bus Stop. Marilyn began to hit her 30's and she began do drugs and having a drinking problem. She was prescribed pain killers by her doctor for endometriosis. In the making of The prince and the showgirl Marilyn had a clash of personalities between her and Oliver. Some would say it was not a very good film by Marilyn, she could have done better. In the movie The Misfits Monroe fell in love with Yues Montand. This ended her marriage with Arthur Miller. She had many physical and mental breakdowns during filming. The death of Clark Gable put a lot of strain on her. Her career and life was beginning to downfall. Learn About Petcoke Petroleum coke, or petcoke, is a byproduct from the refining of crude oil. It consists mostly of carbon, with variable amounts of sulfurs and heavy metals. It has many industrial uses, including the production of batteries, steel, and aluminum. Lower-grade petcoke, which contains higher concentrations of sulfur, is used as fuel in coal-fired power plants and cement kilns. Lower-grade coal is estimated to represent 75% to 80% of all petcoke produced. The production of petcoke in North America has increased in recent years due to the refining of crude oil originating from Canada’s tar sands region. If all the recoverable bitumen (the â€Å"proven reserves†) from tar sands was removed and refined, several billion tons of petcoke could be produced. When operating at capacity, large U.S. refineries can produce 4,000 to over 7,000 tons of petcoke per day. In 2012 the United States exported 184 million barrels (33 million metric tons) of petcoke, predominantly to China. A lot of petcoke is also produced in Canada, in close proximity to the tar sands, where bitumen is upgraded into synthetic crude oil or syncrude.  Ã‚   A Troublesome Source of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Bitumen’s high density, or what gives it that semi-solid consistency, is explained by the fact that it contains more carbon than conventional oil. Refining crude oil from tar sands involves the reduction of the number of carbon atoms per hydrocarbon molecule. These discarded carbon atoms eventually form petcoke. Since large volumes of tar sand crude oil are currently refined, large amounts of low-grade petcoke are produced and sold as an inexpensive fuel for coal plants. This burning of petcoke is where tar sand bitumen releases extra carbon dioxide, compared to conventional oil. Petcoke produces more CO2 per pound than almost any other energy source, making it a contributor to greenhouse gases and thus a driver of global climate change. Not Just a Carbon Problem Refining sulfur-rich tar sand bitumen concentrates the sulfur content in the petcoke. Compared to coal, petcoke combustion requires the use of additional pollution controls to capture much of that sulfur. In addition, heavy metals are also concentrated into the petcoke. There are concerned with the release of these metals into the air when petcoke is used as a fuel in a coal power plant. These same concentrated heavy metals can enter the environment at storage sites where large piles of petcoke are staged, uncovered. The epicenter of complaints stemming from petcoke storage seems to be in the Chicago, Illinois, area. Large piles of petcoke, each made of thousands of tons of the dusty material, sit along the Calumet River and come from an oil refinery in nearby Whiting, Indiana. These storage sites are in close proximity to residential areas in Chicago’s Southeast side, where residents complain about dust from the petcoke piles blowing into their neighborhoods.   Indirect Effects: Keeping Coal-Fired Plants Open The recent boom in natural gas production has been a challenge for coal-fired power stations. Many have been closed or converted to natural gas power generators. However, petcoke can be used concurrently with coal in many power plants, a practice known as co-firing. Some technical challenges associated with co-firing exist (from petcoke’s high sulfur content, for example), but the very low price of petcoke could be an important factor to keep coal plants open in an economically competitive energy environment. Would you consider it murder to kill a baby the day after it is born? Many abortions are perormed each year in the United States. 75% of all abortions in the U.S. are performed on women over 20 years of age, but the lawmakers try to concentrate on the 186,000 teens that have an abortion each year. In 1990, there were nearly 400 abortion bills were introduced to 41 legislatures. So far, as many as 20 states have passed laws that requires a teenager to have a parents consent before having an abortion. This may help reduce the number of abortions each year, the people that passed these bills feel that maybe the parents will feel differently about the situation and be able to talk their child out of it. 20% of teens that are sexually active do not use any form of birth control, these are the teens that end up getting pregnant and getting an abortion. If these girls would use some kind of contraceptive it could stop a lot of the abortions performed each year. If you think about it, it is so much easier to take a pill then it is to be pregnant and have to de cide on the life of another person. When you feel that you are responsible enough to participate in sexual activity, you should also feel that you a resonsible enough to deal with the consequences that follow. Abortions are considered â€Å"the easy was out.† I feel that abortions are just selfish. There is no easy way out. I could not imagine living with the guilt of taking anothers life, especially the life of something that I created, and that is dependant of me.

?Today, lack of equality and peace are prominent issues which shape the world. Such things are demonstrated in Aung San Suu Kyi’s speech, ‘Keynote Address at the Beijing World Conference on Women’ and Faith Bandler’s speech, ‘Faith, Hope and Reconciliation’ through the use of various language devices. The common uses of emotive language between the two texts greatly affect the audience as it creates a sense of sympathy and unity. For example, ASSK states, ‘The struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity. It is a struggle that encompasses our political, social and economic aspirations. ’ the repetitive use of ‘struggle’ emphasizes the hardships for the people of Burma and their desire for freedom. It is a struggle for ‘young girls’ to be driven to ‘sexual slavery where they are subject to constant humiliation’, there is a struggle for freedom, dignity and security. Her use of emotive language and repetition enables the audience to sympathise with her and the people of Burma that the causes of these struggles are lack of equality and peace in the world or our ‘global village’. Similarly in Faith Bandler’s speech, emotive language and repetition are recognised once again to unify the audience and the speaker to create a sense of sympathy which draws upon the theme of inequality and peace. It was a rather slow process for her to understand, ‘when there are millions†¦who are hungry, millions who are homeless, millions who are without work, the wrongfully imprisoned, the deaths in custody, the tortured†¦why is it so hard to find our commonalities? ’, Faith stresses the absurdity of how difficult it is for people to find ‘commonalities’ with her use of repetition of ‘millions’. Its becomes a problem when ‘millions’ are hungry, homeless and jobless as it portrays our society as unequal. The rhetorical questions asked throughout her speech such as ‘why is it so hard to find our commonalities? ’ and ‘what is reconciliation about? ’ state the obvious truths, that it isn’t hard to find reconciliation or peace within the world. Faith demonstrates a world of inequality through the use of emotive language and repetition. Suu kyi and Bandler’s speeches are effective in connecting to their audience when demonstrating the theme of equality and peace. Both activists demonstrate unity to the audience by using inclusive language and first person. For example, as Suu Kyi acknowledges the ‘strong and principled women’ who have lobbied for her release, ‘I cannot let this opportunity pass without speaking of the gratitude we feel towards our sisters everywhere. ’ The use of first person and inclusive language is evident throughout the speech, it illustrates a personal approach to her audience as well as clearly portraying her firm views of women. Bandler’s speech is also evident of the use of these devices. By using first person throughout her speech, it indicates her familiarity with the audience as she was â€Å"here once before† and also shows that she speaks from a personal experience giving the audience an idea of what she has been through such as her work in campaigning and co founding various companies. In order to move the audience about reconciliation whether it’s the ‘youth’ or the ‘not so young’, her use of first person and inclusive language connects to the audience. Both ASSK and Bandler bring their audiences together as a whole to look at common issues of the world and better ways to bring peace.

Ccorporate social responsibility includes human rights, employee rights, stakeholder rights, environmental protection, community relations, transparency and corruption. (Frynas, 2005) Competitive Advantage Competitive advantage is generally believed that the company holds the trumps in resources, capacity, and value created for customers, profit levels and market share and so on. Barney (1991) said a firm is said to have a competitive advantage when it is implementing a value creating strategy not simultaneously being implemented by any current or potential competitors. The basis of a competitive advantage comprises low costs for raw materials and energy, efficient production technologies and locational advantages.(Torsten Frohwein, Bernd Hansjurgens,2005). From a long-term perspective, corporate social responsibility is more conducive to enhance the long-term development and public image. CSR corporate personnel From the point of human resources, human capital is the basis for competitiveness. Staffs including employees and employers are makers, implementers, innovators and evaluators of core competitiveness of enterprises. Business survival and development depends on initiative and creativity of staff. Staff is the driving force for the development. Staff is a powerful competitive advantage to obtain protection. An enterprise survival depends on staff. Therefore, how to retain staff and how to develop staffs contribution of core competitiveness is the core issue. Companies must not only provide employees with reasonable salary and benefits, but also need to create equality, non-discrimination, safety and health, continuing training, working environment. All these are responsibility that enterprises must bear to employees. Staff loyalty and satisfaction result in competitively in the market. The enterprises fulfill their social responsibilities to their staff, such as attracting staff, retaining staff and stimulating creativity, which would have a positive impact. CSR Core Competencies CSR risk control capabilities Risk control is that managers have taken various measures and methods to eliminate or reduce various possibilities of risk, or to reduce losses caused by the incident. CSR that enterprise lead to its stakeholders could reduce the possibility and losses of risk, while appropriate penalties could be subject to ignoring the social responsibility. CSR business innovation Business innovation means such new methods or procedures that an enterprise uses its skills and resources to build new technology and products so that customer requirements can be changed or provide in better response. The result of carbon dioxide emissions was reduced by 10%in 2001 compared to 1990. And it also received $560 million of value-added returns. Adaptation of Renewable Energy Essay -- Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat. On October 5, 2010 the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) approved the first sizeable solar energy plants to be built in California which will be divided into two developments totaling 6,800 acres of public land. This project is estimated to last 30 years while generating almost 1,000 new jobs. The solar energy technology that will be used in California’s Imperial County is called the sterling energy systems SunCatcher technology. It will require 28,360 solar dishes and will produce approximately 709 megawatts which will provide electricity to 212,700 to 531,750 homes. The second project is called the Chevron Lucerne Valley Solar Project and will use solar photovoltaic technology in San Bernardino County using 40,500 solar panels, producing 45 megawatts, and powering 13,500 to 33,750 homes. Another project planned for the San Bernardino County will use parabolic m irrors and create 250 megawatts of power. There are several solar power projects still awaiting DOI approval, such as a 1000 megawatt blythe solar power project consisting of a parabolic trough facility. This is slated to be the world’s biggest solar power plant. Companies who work on renewable energy projects receive credits from The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In America, less than one percent of electrical use is powered from solar energy. W.A.T.C.H.

It is simply being late of activities to be conducted as in meeting or work. This is the reason why a project entitled We Advocate Time Consciousness and Honesty (W. A. T. C. H) conducts related programs every second week of June to solve the Filipinos punctuality problems. Everyone must be a time advocate to alleviate this serious yet mostly neglected problem.Problem Solutions The following are some solutions and recommendations to prevent and cure punctuality problems among all people whether a student or a professional. This robber is not as simple to be solved by equations. This requires discipline, honesty, and zeal. A Time Advocate guards time. The primary action to be a time advocate and a good follower of W. A. T. C. H is to always keep track of time. Knowing your time should be as important as checking your wallet as you step out from your house.You should know your every time schedule. To avoid being late, you can adjust your watch a few minutes from the exact time and it i s recommended that you compare your hatch's time from your office's time. You should be disciplined enough that you won't rely that your watch Is set in advance. A Time Advocate is prepared. Aside from the keeping an eye to time, one thing that you can do to develop punctuality is to be prepared. Simple preparations such as setting your clothes beforehand and the things you need for work or school is helpful.Everything that you need for tomorrows activities must be prepared the night before to avoid setbacks. A Time Advocate influences others. The most Important action that a time advocate must do Is to make Influences. One can make Influences through (1) being an example by applying what you learn about punctuality, (2) setting rules on punctuality and honesty In your own workplace, and 3) attending summits and seminars about W. A. T. C. H or other related programs. Time Is gold, so make It precious.Be a time advocate. W. A. T. C. H. By immeasurable office's time. You should be dis ciplined enough that you won't rely that your watch is need for tomorrow's activities must be prepared the night before to avoid setbacks. A brief for an awareness campaign

For my project, I have chosen to create an awareness campaign, about child abuse, which can come under the marketing and advertising part of the course. My campaign is going to be mainly focused on sexual abuse, as it is quite a sensitive topic and not many people choose to do it. I am aware that it is going to be challenging, and that I would have to use some very effective techniques in order to give out the right message. The main aim is to educate people and inform them about what is going on in the world, as well as marketing for the charity organisation. These are very covert marketing techniques, as it is quite subtle and focused on the organisation's activities rather than the organisation itself. The project is going to be consisted of 4 posters that could be used in either magazine pages or on billboards. They will all have the same layout as well as the same idea, to make it as simple as possible for readers yet effective. Enigma will play a big role in my posters, as they will all be linked, as if it is like a series of pages and they all complete each other. By looking at advertisements by organisations such as NSPCC, I have realised that the use of dull and dark colours are very common, same as the close up shots. However, my use of innovative ideas will make the campaign more appealing, and the enigmatic factors will attract many readers. I will use the idea of including a child's picture in the poster, however unlike the others I will use as much bright colours as I possibly can, that will then be contrasted with the background. The main background is going to be an old diary opened, in quite gloomy and dark colours. The wordings â€Å"dear diary†¦ † are going to be used on the first three posters. The diary connotes that it is real life events, and just like how the book is opened, a person is opening their life for us to look at and go into it. Diaries are usually symbols of truth, as they are very secretive and owned by one person, so the fact that it is the main background connotes that the organisation is very honest about its activities, and that it is simply showing the viewers nothing but the reality. In the middle, there is going to be a very simple, yet colourful picture of a child, each one showing the situation developing, and then followed by short sentences beneath it, symbolising the child writing in their diaries. It shows a sequence of events as it starts by a picture of a girl happily sleeping in her bed, with the word â€Å"My first night in my new bed. he said I was a princess†. The enigma in the text makes the audience wonder who the â€Å"he† is and what the advert is about. The second poster shows a little boy at the park smiling and enjoying his time, however this time there is a hand holding onto his hands. It is then followed by the words â€Å"went to the park today, he played with me on the swings†. There we can immediately feel the enigmatic meaning of the next, where the audience feel the worry and almost know what it really wants to show, especially with the pun on the word â€Å"playing with me†. Even though it builds up tension, the readers would still want to get to the end and know what it is about. The third one is a picture of a little girl with two man hands on her shoulder, and again with the words â€Å"He said no one would understand†¦ he is my only best friend†. Now, it gets clearer to the readers, as the point would have been successfully showed. The last picture consists of the organisations name, followed by some facts, a helpline and then the slogan which is â€Å"This smile†¦ this child†¦ ead between the lines†. The slogan refers back to the smiles of the children in the pictures, and the appearance of a diary supports the idea of reading between the lines, in order to find the truth. The logo of the organisation is going to be placed on every single poster, adding to the confusion and enigmatic effect, but also helping the readers to understand. The advert is very disturbing to readers, as they are seeing innocent childhoods being taken away without realising, and how brainwashed the children get. The contrast in colours shows the active and bright life of children however surrounded by the gloomy colours connoting the dangers around them. The idea is targeted to a more educated, and clever audience, as it is based on challenging the readers to get to the point instead of giving it to them. This means that the advert is targeted at ABC1 audience from both genders, however since it is common for children to get abused in the lower class if society, then the advert is very important to appeal to them too. So overall it appeals to both ABC1 and C2DE audiences, with a very wide range, starting from young children to old grandparents both reporting the same problem. The billboards are going to be created using the same pictures, however with all of them stitched together, making it seem like a storyboard. It could be placed anywhere, however it would be best put at a place such as a shopping centre where viewers can stand and read all of the writing. Stickers are also going to be created with the logo of the campaign and distributed around. I am working in a pair with Kirstie Browne, and we have both decided to equally divide the work, and use a program called â€Å"Easy media creator 10 Suite† to help us create our posters, and make them seem professional. We will start by taking the pictures we need on digital cameras then use them for our final piece. The organisation that we will most probably choose is going to be â€Å"NSPCC† as it is mainly focused of the sexually abused children.
